Waushara County Health News: Walk the Waush season comes to a close

The Waushara County Health Department appreciates all those who participated in the 2022 Walk-the-Waush Challenge.  A total of 1,702.50 miles were logged during the challenge, which ran from June 1st through September 3rd.   

There were four events held this year for participants and anyone else to join in on, they were the National Trails Day Group Hike at Greenwood Segment of the Ice Age Trail in June, Sunrise Yoga & Group Hike at Mt Morris Trail in July, Wildflower Hike at the Bannerman Trail in July, Celebratory Walk-the-Waush fun walk/run at the Bannerman Trail the last day of the challenge.

The top three hikers were Michael Spakowicz (250.97), Kathy Kehl (164.05) and Terri Dopp Paukstat – (75.5)

All 55 participants have earned a Walk-the-Waush certificate and patches for their mileage levels.

Navigator (100+ miles): Two participants

Adventurer (75+ miles): One participant

Backpacker (50+ miles): Five participants

Explorer (25+ miles): Fourteen participants

Hiker (10+ miles): Thirty three participants

Walk-the-Waush is a free, annual hiking challenge sponsored by the Waushara County Health Department, Waushara County Parks Department, and Waushara County Chapter of the Ice Age Trail Alliance.

 

The mission of Walk-the-Waush is to encourage physical activity while promoting the trails in Waushara County.  If you are interested in joining in on the fun next year, please keep an eye out for flyers and information about registration coming in early 2023.
