Dumpster available to city residents thru July

Subhead
At the June 19 Common Council meeting, City Administrator/Clerk-Treasurer Tommy Bohler announced that there is now a community dumpster behind the city hall parking lot, with the entrance on East Mt. Morris Avenue. The dumpster is available for all city residents until the end of July. There are items that are not allowed in the dumpster, including brush, limbs, stumps, building debris, electronics, microwaves, TVs, paint, and tires. Bohler also told the council that the city’s website is in the process of being updated, as well as the current phone system. He added that city residents can now pay their utility bills and set up rentals of park shelters, etc. by going to: cityofwautoma.com. City resident Barbara Lang attended the council meeting to complain that “the evacuation today” was unorganized. Bohler responded that a low-threat gas leak occurred at the corner of Evergreen and Water Streets, which was resolved in a very short time. She complained that the city police officer told her to evacuate to city hall, but then city hall told her to go to the WWII Memorial building, which was closed. (It was later discovered that the city police responsibility is to set up perimeters, while the county Emergency Management Services sent out notifications to all residents in that area.) Mayor John Nixon said he would be looking into the situation with city officials and emergency management staff. While giving his monthly report, Nixon told the council that the Wautoma Open Air Market has been doing well, with around 20 vendors participating each 1st and 3rd Saturday of June, July, and August, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nixon added that he recently attended the Ad Hoc Court House committee and that the court house is now on the State Historical Registry. He learned at the latest meeting that there may be a benefactor who wants to develop the court house for a recreation center. In other business, the council approved: *Resolution #2023-06, approving the annual eCMAR Water Testing Report. The report showed the city received an “A grade” on the report. *Resolution #2023-07, authorizing the Wautoma Fire Department to participate in the Wisconsin Service Award Program. *Resolution #2023-03, amending the Code of Ordinances, Section 8-28, extending the timeframe to keep puppies from birth to 6 months old. Following that timeframe, only 2 dogs per home are allowed. *Resolution #2023-04, amending the Code of Ordinances, Section 16-27, regarding cremation and burial of remains, limiting burial to no more than six cremations in any one burial lot. *Ordinance #2023-05, amending the Code of Ordinances, Section 58-27, regarding vehicular weight limitations on designated city streets. Trucks over 8 tons are not allowed. *A $1,000 donation as a sponsor of the Waushara Area Chamber of Commerce’s Freedom Fest Fireworks show on Saturday, July 1. There will be a parade at 6 p.m., followed by music at the fairgrounds and fireworks at 9:15 p.m. *Annual Liquor, Cigarette, and Picnic Licenses. The next regular Wautoma Common Council is scheduled for Monday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.
