Community member shares concerns for local Dollar General

Subhead
Dear Editor, I have been cashiering for 50 years. I am blessed for working with my same company for 36 years. But, my heartfelt concerns go out to the wonderful employees at the Dollar General Store. Even though they are over-worked and sometimes all alone – they have to put away large shipments and wait on a lot of customers, they still have a smile on their face and greet you. They always take time out and show you where the product is if you can’t find it. To me, they have perseverance to continue no matter how difficult matter how difficult. They all show kindness and care about the customers. That always comes first. The past two weeks they have been closing early, sometimes at 1 p.m. when they are supposed to be open until 9 p.m. You never know what time they will be open everyday, and our town depends on them so much. My suggestion, and this is just a suggestion, is to have corporate hire one to two stockers who want to only stock product and not run the register. I’ve come across three customer friends this week that want to do this, because they know the difficulties these employees are going through. I have a feeling our whole town does. Maybe corporate could create a new policy to hire “stockers only”, as I have seen at many other stores. Our town depends on the one store so we don’t have to travel 15 to 20 minutes away, I’m hoping this letter to you help the employees at the one store. Sincerely, Victoria Steinberg, Coloma
