The county board includes: Allison McCormick, Jay Johnson, John Jarvis, David Bosshard, Dillon Gray, Mark Kerschner, Patrick King, Jesse Urban, Mark Piechowski, Bart Peterson, and Robert Wedell.
Following the oath of office, John Jarvis was voted as Chair, Mark Kerschner as Vice Chair, and Bart Peterson, 2nd Vice Chair. Serving on Public Works Board will be Jarvis, Kerschner, King, and Piechowski; Land, Water and Education Committee – McCormick, Wedell, Bosshard, and Jarvis and Planning and Zoning Commission will include Bosshard, King, Wedell, and Peterson.
Mike Kelley, spoke during public comments on the Waushara County Highway Department. Kelley said, “the highway department has contracted with 18 townships and six villages. Commissioner Brian Friemark’s operation is efficient and runs smooth. I am very satisfied with the work the department does.” From his personal experience, one has to realize that not everyone is your friend. “They are doing the job they are hired to do and keep Waushara County safe,” Kelley concluded.
Also in public comments - James Morgan, Chairman of the Town of Oasis, thanked Brian Freimark, Commissioner and George Nigh for their outstanding service to their township. “Brian brings extra monetary funds to the county and George is a complete supervisor, always lending a hand and making sure crews are following through,” stated Morgan, “I fully support these two public servants.”
Lee Bushmaker, Predictive Index Software, addressed the board explaining the services he could provide in the hiring of a County Administrator. He said his software applies psychology to hiring. He believes letting the employees know they are appreciated and valued is so very important. The software works with what drives people and what their interests are so the interests can be aligned with the job. The initial survey takes four minutes to complete.
Deb Denker, Human Resources/Risk Manager, and Ruth Zouski, Interim Administrator/Corporation Counsel, told the board they would like to advertise on their own through Indeed, Linked In, etc. to see what applicants they can attract before spending funds on software and training. They felt there was not an urgency in hiring as all department heads are doing a great job. The board voted to continue with in house hiring.
The Meeting Room Usage Agreement was amended to exclude the EMS Center in Wautoma due to their being no separation from the living quarters to the meeting room. EMS went to 48 hour shifts and feels that if the meeting room was used it could interrupt the sleep schedule.
The request from Stephanie Sattler to use $211,375 from ARPA funds for Land Records Software was approved by the board.
The next regular scheduled meeting for the Waushara County Board of Supervisors will be held at 6 p.m. on May 21st at the new Government Center on Division Street.
