Doris Grace Tews Sattler, age 92, of Poy Sippi, WI, was called to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 18, 2024, at Harvest Home Assisted Living in Grafton, WI. She was born May 7, 1931, in Southington, CT, the daughter of Gustav and Martha Sonstrom Tews.
Doris was made a child of God through holy baptism at St. Matthias Lutheran Church in New Britain, CT, on June 7, 1931. She was confirmed in the Christian faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Southington on May 20, 1945. Doris grew up with five sisters and loved sharing stories about her childhood.
Doris felt called to be a Lutheran school teacher. After high school, she attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL. It was there that she met the love of her life, Eugene Sattler from Poy Sippi, WI. They were married on June 28, 1952, in Connecticut. She taught school for one year in San Antonio, TX, with her husband before they started their family.
Doris loved her Lord and Savior with all her heart, soul and mind. She was a beautiful example of a Proverbs 31 woman. She lived her faith in everything she did.
Doris was a supportive and loving wife, and a wonderful, nurturing mother to her seven children. She also cared for over 35 foster children, mostly infants and toddlers, while raising her own. Doris had the gift of hospitality and was always ready to help and share with others. She had a deep knowledge of the Bible and Lutheran doctrine.
Doris read her Bible daily and was active in LWML and many other church and mission organizations. She had many hobbies and interests, including quilting, baking, rosemaling, gardening, and raising sheep, goats and chickens on their hobby farm. Doris accompanied Eugene on most of his Creation Education travels, nationally and internationally. She was intelligent and creative with a great sense of humor. Her greatest desire was that all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren believe in Jesus as their Savior and love Him with all their heart. Doris was a remarkable lady whose strong faith in God, her sweet and gentle spirit, and her deep, unconditional love for her family and others will be her lasting legacy.
She is survived by her seven children, Martha Frater, Karl (Carol) Sattler, Gretchen (Kevin) Greatens, Paul (Deb) Sattler, Philip (Bea) Sattler, Kristin Henke, David (Michele) Sattler; 24 grand‐children; 36 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, on July 11, 2021; parents; five sisters, Ellie, Mildred, Esther, Agnes and Judy; and two sons-in-law, Daniel Frater and Michael Henke.
The family would like to thank Harvest Home Assisted Living in Howards Grove and Grafton for their kind and compassionate care given to their mother during the past couple of years. A special thank you to Lily Hospice of Cedarburg.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Poy Sippi. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., at Emmaus Lutheran Church, with Rev. Brian Weber and Rev. John Berg officiating. Interment will be in Brushville Cemetery.
