Betty Jeanne Angelo, of Oshkosh, formerly of Redgranite, died peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Bethel Home in Oshkosh. She had reached her goal of celebrating her 100th birthday on August 28, with a beautiful celebration hosted at Bethel Home, and she was also honored at a Centenarian luncheon hosted at Gabriel’s Villa.
Betty “Jeanne” was born at her family home in Redgranite, WI, brought into this world by the family doctor who was assisted by her grandmother, Esther Sorenson. Betty Jeanne’s parents were Elwin and Lucille Sorenson Malnory. Betty Jeanne graduated from Redgranite High School in May 1942. She played the oboe, was a majorette in the marching band, and was prom queen her senior year. Betty Jeanne was very proud of the fact that she had graduated from high school at age 16. She told so many enjoyable stories about her high school years. Learning to drive was one. It was required that she practice driving with a licensed driver, so her mother “purchased” a driver’s license, and was her copilot many times. Her mother had never driven a car before that time nor after that time. On September 8, 1951, Betty Jeanne was united in marriage to Stephen Angelo at St. Mark Catholic Church in Redgranite. They had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the same venue where they had celebrated their marriage reception, Silvercryst, in Wautoma.
She enjoyed working with figures and interacting with people. She worked as a bookkeeper at Mosier’s Gas Service, Chicago Pickle Company, and as Redgranite Village Treasurer. Betty Jeanne later became employed at the Union State Bank in Redgranite, until she retired in 1987, after 22 years of employment. During those 22 years at the bank, she saw many changes, one being the computer. She told stories of how they used to calculate the interest by hand until the computer made it a much more efficient system. She then did a little traveling out west, to the eastern New England states, and a Caribbean cruise. In later years, she so enjoyed her bingo outings with the girls.
In 2011, she moved to Gabriel’s Villa in Oshkosh. She continued the bingo circuit, expanded to cribbage and cards, and was somehow amazingly convinced to do crafts. Her children are recipients of so many treasured items. In 2022, Betty Jeanne moved to Bethel Home. The Activities staff and volunteers at both facilities brought so much joy to her days. At times, it was difficult to reach her by telephone because she was always at one of their many activities. She remained an avid Green Bay Packers fan, Milwaukee Brewers fan and Milwaukee Bucks fan. If her TV was on, it was on a sports channel. During her last few months, AseraCare Hospice joined the staff of care providers at Bethel Home. Through the years, Betty Jeanne enjoyed so many new friendships with staff and residents at Gabriel’s Villa, Bethel Home and AseraCare Hospice. She had many loving hearts and hands caring for her, for which we will always be grateful.
Above all, she was the best mom, and her family will hold close all of the memories that they made with her.
Betty Jeanne is survived by her two children, Barbara Angelo (Brian Happersett) and Michael (Debra) Angelo; sister-in-law, Dolores Angelo; nieces and nephews and their spouses and children; and her extended family at Gabriel’s Villa, Bethel Home and AseraCare Hospice. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve, on August 27, 2002; parents; step-mother, Anita Malnory; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Providence Angelo; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marion Malnory; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Clyde Buhrow; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Anthony and Louise Angelo, Clayton and Laura Wilcox, and William Angelo; niece and nephew, Angie and Del Ralls; niece, Bonnie Buhrow; and nephew, Thomas Paches.
Inurnment beside her husband, Steve, will be in St. Mark Catholic Cemetery in Redgranite at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola-Hempel Funeral Chapel in Poy Sippi.
