Dale Raymond Hempel, age 85, of Poy Sippi, died peacefully at home on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
He was born March 25, 1940, in Berlin, WI, the son of Raymond and Louise Jorgensen Hempel. Dale was a 1958 graduate of Berlin High School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years. On June 6, 1964, he was united in marriage to Darlene Taylor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Redgranite.
Dale and his wife, Darlene, owned and operated Westside Inn in Redgranite before owning and operating the Poy Sippi Bowling Lanes for 22 years. In addition to showing and breeding Arabian horses, Dale was a horse transporter for over 40+ years. For many years, he also plowed snow for the Town of Poy Sippi. Dale was a former member of the Redgranite Volunteer Fire Department and Redgranite Lions Club, and was presently a member of NRA, Whitetails Unlimited and a life member of Redgranite AMVETS Post #13. When he wasn’t hauling horses or plowing snow, Dale enjoyed hunting with his family at home on his property and out west with his hunting buddies. He was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Poy Sippi.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; two sons, David Hempel and Daniel (Suzie) Hempel; five grandchildren, Justin “Buddy” (Amber) Hempel, Amanda Gorman, Jordan Hempel (Abby Haese), Nathan Hempel and Benjamin Hempel; four great-grandchildren, Phoenix Hempel, Rosalyn Hempel, Ravyn Hempel and Patrick Gorman III; one nephew, Doug (Kathy) Smith; one niece, Julie Compton; and other relatives and friends. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Denis (Ruth) Taylor; sister, Kay Smith Miller; brothers-in-law, Roland Smith and Larry Miller; and niece, Laurie Marks.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 28, at 11:00 a.m., at Barbola-Hempel Funeral Chapel in Poy Sippi, with Rev. Wayne Schwanke officiating. Interment with military honors performed by Redgranite AMVETS Post #13 will be in Poy Sippi Cemetery. Visitation was held on Wednesday, August 27, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Barbola-Hempel Funeral Chapel in Poy Sippi, and will be held on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A memorial has been established.
