Eagles net back to back wins and Conference Championships

Posted

The Almond-Bancroft Eagles had plenty of reason to celebrate last week as they scored back to back home wins and finalized their second consecutive conference championship.
The Eagles Feb. 20 game was a tough matchup against the Nekoosa Papermakers that ended 57-53. While the Eagles struggled with the visiting Papermakers’ tough full court press throughout the game, they managed to keep their composure and the lead, making plays on the basket and big stops when it counted most. Ayden Phillips led their scoring efforts for the game with 24 points, followed by Emmitt Stiles with 19 and Clarence Pratt with 11.
On Feb. 21, the Eagles played their final conference matchup of the season, hosting the Rosholt Hornets. The game was bumpy to say the least as Rosholt quickly found themselves in foul trouble, racking up 26 penalties on the night to include a pair of technical fouls in the second half. This gave the Eagles ample opportunities to score easy points as they collectively made 23 of 40 shots from the line and finished the game 71-31. Ayden Phillips led the Eagles scoring efforts again, racking up 38 points on the night. Cohen Preissner had a standout night and added 10 points of his own to help push his team to another win. The win brought the Eagles conference record to 11-1 and was the last game required to officially lock in their title as Central Wisconsin-South Conference Champions.
After the game the team was presented with their trophy and took a moment to celebrate their accomplishment. This is the team’s second consecutive conference championship and the third for this year’s graduating seniors.
Catch the Eagles in action again on March 4th at 7 p.m. when they’ll host The Elcho Hornets for their first game in the WIAA Regional Tournament.
