Food Pantry offering mobile services in Coloma

Posted

Food pantry services are coming to Coloma! The Waushara County Food Pantry is excited to begin offering mobile pantry services in the Village of Coloma, beginning Thursday, June 25 from 1-4 p.m. The mobile pantry willl be held at the Coloma Fire Department, 383 Industrial Dr.
Coloma pantry services will be offered on the fourth Thursday of each month in an effort to increase pantry access to community members living in western Waushara County. This expansion is timely given the increased travel cost for those coming to the the pantry’s primary distribution center in Wautoma and the additional burdens households are facing as food costs increase.
Pantry users can visit the pantry once each month to receive a variety of shelf stable, fresh and frozen meat, fruit, vegetables, and breads following nutritional guidelines for healthy living. Coloma site users will recive the same food being distributed at the Wautoma location following the pantry’s rotating monthly menu. In addition, the pantry offers the Stock Box Program food for households of low income individuals age sixty and older. Services are confidential.
If not already registered, mobile pantry users will need to complete a simple registration form during their first visit. This form will be available at the Coloma Public Library and can be downloaded from the pantry’s website. https://wausharafoodpantry.org/get-food/. Once registered, pantry users will simply check in at registration and proceed through the building where volunteers will load food into their vehicles.
Providing mobile pantry services has been a goal for some time. Funding from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and support of the Coloma Lions Club is making this possible. Efforts to expand services in other communities had been unsuccessful. When the Coloma Lions Club approached the pantry about collaborating to address local needs and transportation barriers being faced by residents, the timing was right to establish pantry services in Coloma and partner with the Coloma Lions Club.
The Waushara County Food Pantry relies on community donations, grants, local fundraising efforts, bequests and the charitable food system to support pantry services. In partnership with our community, the Waushara County Food Pantry, Inc. exists to alleviate food insecurity by providing reliable access to nutritious food in a welcoming environment. The pantry is a community-based nonprofit and independent from county government. To learn more about the pantry and pantry services, visit www.wausharafoodpantry.org or call 920-787-0641.
