Genevieve Carolyn Everson, age 90, of Brushville, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

She was born February 24, 1936, at her parents’ home on “Chilly Hill” in the Township of Poygan, Winnebago County, the daughter of G. Donald and Marie Carpenter Hoeft. Gennie was co-valedictorian of the 1954 graduating class of Weyauwega High School. She excelled in extemporaneous speaking in State Forensic competition. Gennie attended North Central College in Naperville, IL, for two years and then decided to come home and marry her sweetheart. On May 25, 1957, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Everson at Borth Evangelical United Brethren Church, with her uncle, Rev. Merlin Hoeft, officiating.

After receiving her Wisconsin cheesemaker’s license Gennie tended the vats alongside Lloyd as they started their life together at the Alder Creek Cheese Factory in rural Fremont. They raised five children together, the first four coming within the first two years of their marriage. In addition to working at Alder Creek and Brushville cheese factories for decades, Gennie held the positions of custodian at First Lutheran Church in Poy Sippi for 35 years, and secretary of Brushville Cemetery Association for 40 years.

Gennie loved her time outdoors, from her early days on the farm to spending time in her extensive vegetable and flower gardens, to always searching for a bluebird or a cardinal above. She followed in her grandmother Bertha’s footsteps insofar as she kept generations of family lore alive in our genealogical records. In later years she kept her mind active by reading and completing word search and jigsaw puzzles. Gennie was a member of First Lutheran Church in Poy Sippi.

She is survived by her children, Douglas Everson, Karen (Arlen) Peters, Joan Everson (her Shih Tzu, Spirit), Judy (Randy) Moeller and Dennis (Gregory Smith) Everson; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jonathan Roy) Everson, Jenn (Hunter) Brown, Nathan (Olivia) Peters, Aaron (Meghan) Peters, Joel Moeller and Rachel (Jared) Jaeger; six great-grandchildren, Natasha Roy, Madison Brown, Henry Peters, Caroline Peters, Grace Peters and Elijah Peters; siblings, Elaine Fuhrman, Bruce (Deb) Hoeft and Joyce (Vern) Josie; sisters-in-law, Mary Hoeft and Joy Hoeft; daughter-in-law, Peggy Crane; and many beloved nieces, nephews, grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews and friends. Gennie was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, on March 31, 2024; sister, Rose Marie (Milton) Steinke; brothers, Donald and Russell Hoeft; and daughter-in-law, Christina Everson.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 29, at 11:00 a.m., at First Lutheran Church in Poy Sippi, with Rev. Rebekah Tarras officiating. Private family interment will be in Brushville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 28, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Barbola-Hempel Funeral Chapel in Poy Sippi, and on Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be directed to Poy Sippi Food Pantry or ELCA World Hunger. The family wishes to thank ThedaCare Hospice for their compassionate care at the end of mom’s journey. The most important thanks go to Pam Lilach, mom’s constant caregiver, as well as our dear sister, Joan, who kept mom safe and sound at home.
