Scoring points has not been a problem for Cali Havlovitz in her four seasons with the Wild Rose girls’ basketball team.
She scored 28 of them Nov. 21 in a 61-51 loss to Manawa. Although the Wildcats came up short against the Wolves, Havlovitz became the fourth Wild Rose player to score 1,000 points, a list that includes her older sister Laney.
Wild Rose led for most of the first half and took a 28-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Ellie Stroesenreuther’s three-pointer gave Manawa its first lead and came during a 12-0 run that turned a 28-22 deficit into a 34-28 lead.
Cali Bahr gave the Wildcats a 46-45 lead with six minutes remaining in the game, but the lead didn’t last long, as Lilian Klatt gave the Wolves a 49-48 lead. Manawa never trailed again and closed out the game with a 12-3 run.
Alyson Henschel added 10 points to go with Havlovitz’s game-high 28. Abigail Elmhorst and Olivia Tomko-Santos led Manawa with 20 and 17 points, respectively.
The Wildcats opened the season Nov. 19 with a 49-32 home win over Shiocton. Wild Rose outscored the Chiefs 25-9 in the first half.
Havlovitz led the Wildcats with 20 points and Emica Marquez added 16.
