The Wautoma Boys Basketball team traveled to Princeton Green Lake on Jan. 27 for a non-conference matchup against the Tigersharks. The Tigersharks got out to an early lead as the Hornet’s were cold from the field. Skyler Royston’s 12 points kept the Hornet’s close in the first half as the Tigersharks built a 26-19 halftime lead.
In the second half, the teams traded baskets early, but the Tigersharks built a 32-22 lead midway through the second half. The Hornet’s clamped down on the defensive end and Peyton Pica hit three straight 3’s to cut the lead to one as Pica scored 21 points in the second half to help spark the Hornet’s comeback. The team traded baskets until the Hornets were able to take the lead with just under a minute to earn a hard fought 54-50 road win.
The Hornets were led in scoring by Sophomore Peyton Pica with 23 points and Junior Skyler Royston with 21. Senior Taylor Krueger chipped 7 points. The Hornets were led in rebounding by Krueger with 7 and Royston with 3. Roystan and Pica each had four steals on the defensive end.
