On April 4, 2026, James "Jimmy" D. Zanto took his final checkered flag, passing away peacefully at home in Greenville, Wisconsin, surrounded by the family he cherished. Born on May 16, 1965, in Ripon and raised in Wautoma, Jimmy lived a life fueled by engines, community, and heart.

From a young age, he was drawn to anything with wheels. That passion carried him through his service in the U.S. Air Force in Wurtsmith AFB, Oscoda, Michigan, and later back home, where he took over Don's Auto Sales. Under his leadership, the family business grew built on hard work, and the kind of handshake people believed in.

Jimmy never hesitated to give back. Whether responding to calls as a volunteer firefighter or grooming snowmobile trails late into winter nights, he showed up for his community without expecting anything in return.

His motorsports days were legendary. Spring meant long hours building demolition derby cars, and race day meant tearing them apart with a grin. He loved the sport so much that he sponsored multiple cars, giving friends the chance to chase the same adrenaline rush he lived for.

In his final years, Jimmy was lovingly supported by his companion, Sandra J. Ostrowski, whose steady care and companionship brought him comfort, peace, and joy.

Jimmy is survived by Sandra; his children, Jaclyn Zanto and Steven Zanto (Diane Sicorsicor); his father, Donald Zanto (Sharon Strahota) ; his sister, Sheri (Zanto) Gleason (Joseph Gleason); his uncle Roger Zanto (Debbie Klekot); his aunts, Jayne Stowell (Simon Brodie), Donna Laporte (Stowell) (David Laporte) and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn (Stowell) Zanto.

Those who knew Jimmy will remember his generosity, his humor, his love of engines and open trails, and the way he made everyone feel like family. A private burial for close family is planned.
