Law enforcement responds to weapon threat from Wautoma High School student

Posted

On Oct. 9 at approximately 1:18 p.m., Waushara County Human Services contacted the Waushara County Sheriff 911 Center after information was learned that a student in the high school told a social worker he was going to do a shooting that included targeting law enforcement officers. Family members reported the family guns were missing and the student was currently at Wautoma High School.
The social worker’s second call to the 911 center was transferred to School Resource Officer Hendrickson’s phone. The social worker then contacted Chief Mott and advised him of the situation. At 1:28 p.m., Chief Mott, who
was off duty and out of the county, contacted dispatch and learned no law enforcement officers were dispatched to the threat of a possible armed subject at Wautoma High School. Chief Mott requested they start dispatching officers to the incident, and they did, entering a call for service at 1:30 p.m. Social workers also notified the school district, the school went on lock down, and staff immediately located the student.
School Resource Officer Hendrickson contacted the student, who resisted Officer Hendrickson’s attempt at detention. The individual was taken into custody at 1:32 p.m. It was later confirmed threats were made and that the
student was not in possession of any weapons. The 16-year-old juvenile was detained at the Wautoma Police Department. Charges were referred for Threat to Law Enforcement, Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Conduct. The juvenile was transferred to a juvenile detention facility with the cooperation of Waushara County Youth Justice. The guns reported missing were located.
The Wautoma Police Department would like to commend the quick response by Wautoma High School Staff, Waushara County Human Services and School Resource Officer Hendrickson along with the Waushara County Deputies that responded and assisted with transporting the juvenile to Wautoma P.D.
