Local volunteers provide over 15,000 meals to Midwest Mission Center

Posted

‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ These were words in a parable from Jesus in the book of Matthew in The Bible (ESV).
Over 50 dedicated volunteers sacrificed a sunny Saturday for a Blessing Bag Event hosted at Grace United Methodist Church of Wautoma and led by pastor Stephanie Taylor. Volunteers included members and friends of Grace. Other involved churches were: Green Lake Federated, Wild Rose Methodist, Plainfield & Almond Methodist, Berlin & Neshkoro Methodist. These gracious givers funded and packed 2,520 rice and soy Blessing Bags.
Each Blessing Bag included a vitamin pack, dehydrated vegetables, soy and white rice - designed to meet hunger and nutritional needs. A Blessing Bag feeds six people, and 15,120 meals were provided on this Saturday.
The Midwest Mission Center delivered over 180,000 Blessing Bags in 2024 – feeding over a million individuals.
These Blessing Bags will be distributed from The Midwest Mission Center in Illinois which is one of seven cooperating depots working for the United Methodist Committee on Relief.
This organization distributes nationally and internationally for health needs (Blessing Bags of food, baby care kits, medical supplies, etc), disaster relief, education (student kits and desks), and micro business (bikes and sewing machines). In 2024 $6.3 million in humanitarian aid was sent. Check them out at midwestmission.org/collect-donate.
In a world of division and greed, it’s heart-warming to see caring community.
