Plainfield Library has been working on cultivating an environment that welcomes everyone. The community was able to learn more about the changes and growth during a Jan. 17 open house, where some exciting news about the future of the library was also shared.
The Plainfield Library has been selected as the recipient of a Visionary Grant from the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin, which will provide $45,000 over the next five years. Chief Executive Officer Jenny Riggenbach commented that they were excited to receive an application from Plainfield, as there has not been one awarded to the area in quite some time.
Merra Albosta, Library Director, shared what the library plans to use these funds for over the next five years. The first project will be installing automatic entrances to provide more accessibility to handicap individuals, or even moms with their hands full.
In year two, a sensory space will be created within the library. “We have a lot of kids, and even adults, who can benefit from that extra love and care. This is part of creating a space where everyone belongs,” adds Albosta.
In the third and fourth years, the library plans on extending its Spanish literature options. Plainfield has a large Hispanic population, and they deserve to have books to choose from at their local library. The library also hopes to provide ESL (English as a Second Language) classes in the future.
