Ramona Monica Wacholtz, age 76, of Montello, died peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Berlin.
She was born December 20, 1949, in Berlin, WI, the daughter of Gilbert and Hermiane Postal Hoffman. Ramona was a 1969 graduate of Berlin High School. On June 12, 1992, she was united in marriage to Dennis Wacholtz in Grand Rapids, MI.
Ramona worked for Brakebush Brothers Inc. in Westfield, Midwestern Sport Togs in Berlin and as a CNA at Montello Care Center. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, painting, and nurtured her love for animals at a young age, having horses to tend to. Ramona kept the birds in her yard well fed and liked to watch them, especially the hummingbirds. She enjoyed her special canine companion, Benjamin, to go visit the kids while camping, while her feline friends, Mittens and Peppy, had to stay home. Ramona’s well-known by her family and hunting group for her cooking and baking, especially her dirt cake and chicken noodle soup. She was truly the matriarch of the family.
She is survived by her children, Tammy (Dennis) Madsen, Justin (Nicci) Polakowski, Cindy (Marc) Schmidt, David (Laurie) Wacholtz and Dawn Provost; 11 grandchildren, Charlene Sage, Kyle (fiancée, Tanya), Justin “JJ” Polakowski Jr., Shoshauna (Christopher) Daniel, Sierra Schmidt, Lukas (Jordan) Schmidt, Logan (Ashley) Wacholtz, Seth Wacholtz, Zachary Wacholtz, Michael Provost Jr and Katana Provost; 9 great-grandchildren, Austin, Zane and Chloe Sage, Remington King, Waylon Braley, Loretta Schmidt, Henrik Daniel, Hunter Wacholtz and Mason Christensen; niece, Neveah Hoffman; nephews, Brian (Shelly) Hoffman, Tyler Hoffman, Luke (Megan) Hoffman, Jordan Hoffman, Joel Hoffman, Gilbert (Bethanne) Hoffman Jr., Tommy Hoffman, Macquire Hoffman, Devin Hoffman, Jackson Fay and Kathleen Kohler; brothers, Gilbert (Karen) Hoffman and Jerry Hoffman; sister-in-law, Cathy Nikolai; sons-at-heart, Mike Sullivan and Frank (Brenda) Christopherson; special friend, Cheri Asinas; and other relatives and friends. Ramona was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis, on May 11, 2022; parents; and grandnephew, Damon Hoffman.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., with Rev. Scott T. Piper officiating. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, April 11, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Interment will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
