Redgranite Quarry Committee finalizes Labor Day weekend plans

Posted

The Redgranite Quarry Committee finalized plans for Labor Day weekend during their latest meeting.
The quarry will open for swimming on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with paid entry. The park will also reopen for the annual Labor Day festival fireworks on Sunday evening, Sept. 6, starting at 5 p.m. until the fireworks finish. Visitors will be allowed to sit in the area behind Rock Coffee House and down Division St. to view the fireworks, with no swimming being permitted during the Sunday activities.
Volunteers will be on hand selling concessions and glow bracelets/necklaces that kids can enjoy during the Sunday activities. The Quarry committee discussed the possibility of splitting food proceeds with the Redgranite Advancement Association (RAA) to help support both groups. Board president and quarry committee member Jim Erdmann will discuss the committee’s plans for the weekend to ensure everyone is on the same page.
The committee moved on to discuss this year’s Harvestfest, a fall-themed quarry fundraiser that takes place the second weekend of October. The event will once again take place at Willow Creek Park, with this year’s event also featuring a car show.
In an effort to save money, organizers will be creating handmade carnival games, along with pumpkin painting, ‘Sean’s pumpkin bowling’, and a hayride. Along with games, the event will once again feature a pie-eating contest, chili cook-off, and raffle.

The committee also voted to try out one new fundraising event over the holiday months. This calendar raffle will include a daily drawing in December, with one lucky winner every day that will receive around $200-$300. Special holiday payouts will be awarded, with the board discussing $500 for Christmas Eve and New Years, and $1,000 on Christmas day. Drawn tickets will be reentered into the drawing each day, giving participants multiple chances to win.
This raffle operates on a 50/50 model and has the potential to raise nearly $10,000 towards quarry park improvements. Volunteers will start selling the 1,000 available tickets during upcoming community events and through Thanksgiving.
In the meantime, volunteers have been taking the time to help clear brush, poisonous sumac, and downed trees. They hope to make the trails accessible enough to host events at the quarry in the future. If you are interested in volunteering to help clean up the quarry or assist during one of their events, contact village hall at 920-566-2381 for more information.
