The County Cupboard: Serving your spooky season needs and beyond

Posted

If you’re still looking for the right costume for this Halloween, look no further than the County Cupboard. After a large anonymous donation of new, unopened costumes, you are sure to find the perfect fit while staying under budget.
The County Cupboard offers these costumes at discounted prices compared to what you’ll find in stores. There is a wide selection of costume sets available in packages, as well as individual pieces that allow you to create your own unique character.
The store not only has everything you need for dress-up, but it has plenty of decorations as well for this fall. Once fall and Halloween stock is sold out, the Cupboard will unveil a winter wonderland display for the Christmas season.
Every time you shop at The County Cupboard, you are reinvesting in local causes. All store proceeds are distributed to local organizations such as area fire departments, police, food pantries, and the Cupboard’s own scholarship program. So not only do you find something unique at a great price, but you are directly giving back to the community.
A lot has changed, and more is coming. The Cupboard’s new manager, Elizabeth Richards, shared some of her visions for the store’s future.

Currently, the store is working to reorganize its stock and layout. These plans include a designated children’s department, flooring and racking improvements to create more space to lay out clothes, and a reorganized sorting area.
One exciting initiative Richards hopes to bring to life is creating a “free room”. The room would be located in a converted storage room that has access from the outside. The County Cupboard is grateful to have a large amount of donations, but they are sometimes unable to sell everything. The room would be stocked with items the Cupboard is unable to sell, along with essentials for those in need such as winter coats and blankets. Everything in the room will be free, with an option to donate if you are able. Richards is currently researching grant applications to help fund this project.
Local youth have also contributed new ideas to revitalize the space, with a Wild Rose High School senior volunteering artistic skills for in-store signs or a Berlin student sharing their fashion knowledge to help price clothing. Volunteers and staff also keep the store running, as donations are dropped off daily.
While The County Cupboard pursues these improvements, they are staying true to their mission: Reinvesting in the community. Every donation or purchase makes a difference in Waushara County.
The County Cupboard is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Remember to stop by before Halloween for all of your spooky season needs!
