The gift of reading goes statewide

Posted

For those who remain watching Hallmark Christmas films and have your Christmas tree up until February 14th - I give you a Christmas update.
Jim Pollock wrote a children’s Christmas book of Santa fixing situations of bullying and excessive sugar use by his elves.
His intention was to publish some copies for the local police and sheriff’s department to give out during the holiday season. To print 50 to 100 copies, Mr. Pollock started a Go-Fund-Me account that went nowhere. So, he reached out to the Argus to see if our local community would partner with him financially.
The power of the press brought not only funding but suggestions of many distribution places. What started locally went statewide through the police and sheriff’s departments Lights of Christmas program and children’s hospitals and the regional foster care program, schools, EMS, and child protective services. There were 2,500 copies printed and almost all of the books were distributed.
Mr. Pollock received a very grateful response from those who received the books and a request that he thank all those who donated for this cause. Everyone, “Thank you!” Some people asked Mr. Pollock to write other Santa and elf children’s books dealing with drug, gun and social media issues. He works on them currently but desires input from a child counselor as the content is dark.
Finally, as Mr. Pollock is advancing in years, he would love someone to run a non-profit for future fund raising and distribution. Dream big. Nationwide? International, with translations in English and Spanish?
