The Penguins were face to face with the Marion Mustangs for the second time this season in a heated fight to the finish on Feb. 11 at Tri-County High School. Tri-County’s season opened in Marion, with the Mustangs claiming a 60-36 win on Nov. 26. This was the Penguins’ time to make a comeback as the season nears the end.
The score was tied several times throughout the game. The Penguins were able to take a close lead with a 19-12 lead over the Mustangs going into the second half. Fans could be heard cheering as both teams were quick on the offense, each taking turns at scoring 2-point layups back-to-back. The score tied over 5 times in the heated fight for the win.
The Penguins managed to ice out the Mustangs with a 42-27 finish.
Seth Hildebrandt topped Penguins scoreboard with 16 points, including three 3-point shots. RJ Meddaugh also scored double digits, putting up 11 points. Gage Beggs added 7 points to the mix, but also was able to record 12 rebounds and 8 assists. Sam Boyd also assisted the team with 10 rebounds.
The Penguins currently hold a 6-15 overall record this season. This win was able to put Tri-County ahead of last year’s stats, which ended with only 5 wins.
