The Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin is proud to announce the recipient of the Major Project Grant: the Waushara Community YMCA, a branch of the Stevens Point Area YMCA. The grant provides funding up to $50,000 to a project that has a transformative impact on the community, particularly in the areas of arts & culture, education, environment, helping people, and wellness.
“We are thrilled to support the Waushara Community YMCA’s project,” said Marc Bickford, the Community Foundation’s board president, “This initiative will make an incredibly positive impact on the Waushara community”.
The $50,000 grant goes towards establishing a YMCA in Wautoma, providing wellness programs, 40-60 childcare slots, jobs, and will contribute to the economic growth and cultural enrichment in Waushara County. With a focus on wellness and providing essential services, the YMCA’s project aligns strongly with the Community Foundation’s mission to enhance the well-being of residents in Portage and Waushara counties.
Over the past five years, the grant program has been awarded to a project that is designed to make a meaningful difference in the lives of residents. The YMCA’s project was selected for its comprehensive approach to community impact, “The Waushara Community YMCA is honored to receive this generous grant from the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin. Their support affirms the vital role the Y will play in strengthening the Waushara area through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This partnership allows us to expand opportunities and ensure that everyone has access to the programs and resources they need to thrive”, says Ryan Zietlow, the CEO of the Stevens Point Area YMCA.
The Major Project Grant was open to nonprofit and charitable programs in Portage and Waushara counties that align with the Community Foundation’s mission areas. Projects were chosen based on their potential for their significant local impact.
