Wild Rose Fire Department responds to possible gas leak after vehicle collides with bar

Posted

The Wild Rose Fire Department was on scene at The Rusty Reel following a one-vehicle accident which resulted in a gas leak in the Village of Wild Rose on Feb. 10.
After investigation, the report was released stating that Amy Richards, Plainfield, left the roadway, and continued straight instead of taking the curve to the left. Richards then went into the west ditch, onto the pond, up an embankment, then airborne, over a fence into the north side of a business, causing a gas leak.
Al Luchini, Fire Chief of the Wild Rose Area Fire District released the following statement:
At approximately 8:33 p.m., Wild Rose Fire Department, along with the Waushara County Sheriff’s Department, were dispatched to 350 Main Street for a report of a vehicle that had struck a business with a possible gas leak.
At approximately 8:35 p.m., the first fire unit arrived on scene and found a vehicle that had crashed through the kitchen area of the business. The vehicle had severed a gas meter, causing an active gas leak. An immediate evacuation was ordered, and the roadway around the business was closed for safety.

The location of the driver was initially unknown. Due to the vehicle resting directly on top of the ruptured gas pipe, rescue efforts could not begin immediately.
A short time later, the driver — the lone occupant of the vehicle — was located and found to have sustained minor injuries.
WE Energies and Alliant Power worked together to shut off power to the building to eliminate any fire risk. After the gas was secured, power was safely restored.
No other injuries were reported during this incident.
We would like to thank the residents of Wild Rose for their patience and understanding while crews worked to secure the scene.
We also extend our appreciation to: Saxeville-Springwater Fire Department for assistance with traffic control, Waushara County Sheriff’s Department, Waushara County Communications, Waushara County Emergency Management, Waushara County Highway Department, WE Energies, and Alliant Energy
