Almond’s Tater Toot celebration draws big crowds, bigger smiles

Posted

The Village of Almond came alive as the annual Tater Toot Festival took over downtown, bringing with it a parade bursting with small town charm, the marching band, and a full lineup of community fundraisers that showcased the heart of rural Portage County.
The Tater Toot parade—organized in partnership with the Almond Lions Club kicked off under clear skies and a steady hum of anticipation. Spectators lined up on Main Street, kids anxious for the candy collection.
Floats ranged from a new massive potato harvest tractor polished to a shine to semis and everything in between. The Lions Club’s float, decked out in bright yellow and blue, drew loud cheers as volunteers tossed candy and waved to familiar faces.
Local artisans offered handmade soaps, handmade gifts, and stitched crafts. Local churches served baked potatoes, drinks, and deep fried cheese curds. A scrumptious chicken and potato dinner was also on the menu selections. Families crowded around lemonade stands and ice cream trucks as temperatures climbed into the mid 80s.
The atmosphere was not just fundraising; the Tater Toot was a gathering place where neighbors lingered, chatted, and caught up on summer happenings. Live music pulsed through the festival grounds from late morning into the evening on Saturday.
The Almond Lions Club, long known for its commitment to local service projects, played a central role in coordinating volunteers, parade logistics, and cleanup. Their presence was felt everywhere, from directing traffic to flipping burgers and brats at the concession stand. Residents praised the club’s organization and dedication, noting that the festival continues to grow thanks to their efforts.
This year’s Tater Toot felt like a celebration
