Just north of Pine River sits the iconic barn owned by Karen Fahey. Recently, it has received some touch-ups, which included the installation of an 8x8-foot barn quilt.
Karen’s late husband, Charlie Buehler, bought the farm piece by piece almost 70 years ago making it his pride and joy. Karen has been caring for the property since Charlie passed away in 2005 honoring Charlie’s memory and the property’s historical significance.
Tyler Wagner took on the barn project while helping repaint the barn. The design took him six hours to sketch, and then was handed to Olivia Schwister, who spent another six hours on the painting. The classic thistle rose design combines geometric shapes and floral elements, with inspiration from the thistle and the rose. The designs are often inspired by color schemes of flowers such as hydrangeas. Barn quilts offer up the chance to celebrate our rural area, agricultural traditions, and local history.
The barn itself is a part of local history, with the structure dating back to as early as 1902, as written in the concrete. The barn is over 100 years old and still standing strong! Now, with a new paint job and the iconic quilt, the barn will be a sight to see for many years to come.
