Celebrate spring with Black Hawk Folk Society

Posted

Black Hawk Folk Society (BHFS) invites you to celebrate spring with a concert by Lil Rev, Saturday, April 12. This award-winning singer-songwriter, music educator, festival organizer, and more will take the stage at Mountain View Community Center at 7 p.m. Lil Rev is best known for his mastery of the ukulele and harmonica. He has recorded numerous cd’s, performs far and wide, solo and with other musicians, up to 150 shows annually. For more info about this talented performer and to sample his music, visit www.lilrev.com.
Lil Rev’s musical inspiration began early on, thanks to time spent listening to his father’s record collection. A few years later, thanks to his early morning paper route, Lil Rev was able to purchase his first guitar, some rock n roll records, and a few guitar lessons. Early musical influences ranged from Bruce Springsteen to Woody Guthrie to Larry Penn. In the early 90’s a fan gave Lil Rev a “seen better days” ukulele. That was life changing in terms of the next direction his musical career took. Now, Lil Rev finds that holding and playing the ukulele “feels like being with an old friend.” His work currently centers around teaching, performing, writing, and recording ukulele themed projects.
Black Hawk Folk Society invites concert-goers to an optional potluck at 6. General admission is at the door. Mountain View Community Center (located at N3137 21st Lane, just off Highway 152, south of Mt. Morris) is handicap friendly, with free on-site parking. Black Hawk Folk Society is a 501(c)(3) organization, grateful to sponsors and other donors who help make this and other concerts possible.
