The Almond-Bancroft Eagles played host to the Tri-County Penguins on Jan. 24 for their second game of the season against the conference rival. The Eagles won their first meeting with Tri-County 70-37 and added another victory to their perfect conference record at this one, wrapping up the game at 79-53.
The Eagles started the game strong, jumping out to an early lead and eventually expanding that to a 20 point difference at half time. At the start of the second half the visiting Penguins began to mount a comeback as the Eagles seemed to have grown perhaps a little too comfortable with their position in the lead. A quick timeout chat with Coach Keith Dernbach seemed to get them squared away again and the Eagles went on to expand their lead by a few more points before the final buzzer.
Four Eagles players scored in the double digits in this game; Senior Ayden Phillips led the charge with 21 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Clarence Pratt, Brody Dernbach and Emmitt Stiles followed with 17, 16, and 15 points each. Pratt and Dernbach each hauled in 9 rebounds of their own as well.
You can catch the Eagles in action at home again on Thursday, Jan. 30th at 7 .p.m when they’ll host the Pittsville Panthers for another night of conference action. The Eagles narrowly defeated Pittsville 68-61 earlier in the season.
