Westfield Lady Pioneers welcomed their conference opponents from Adams-Friendship to go head-to-head on Dec. 12.
The Lady Pioneers were first on the board and kept things nearly even throughout the first half. While the Pioneers managed to pull ahead several times, long lobs across the court didn’t work out well for the team. Each time the Pioneers gained a 10 to 12 point advantage, the Devils responded with stronger lobs, steals, and turnovers, keeping the halftime score close at 33 to 35 in the Devils’ favor.
In the second half, both teams pressed hard, with as many three-pointers as tussles for ball control on the floor. As the respective crowds cheered in the final minutes, the Pioneers seemed to lose their grip on ball handling, which allowed the Devils to take the lead.
The Adams-Friendship Lady Green Devils were able to edge out the Westfield Lady Pioneers in the last few minutes of a very intense matchup. The final score was 68-69, with late fouls giving the Devils the last few crucial points.
Top scorers for Westfield were #5 Senior Halle Drew with 33, tied for second were Sophomores Brooklyn Stankiewicz and Libbie Showen at 13.
