Westfield swoops up 64-46 win in playoff action

Posted

Westfield Pioneers came face to face against the Horicon Marshmen for a WIAA Regional playoff at Westfield High School on March 8. The Pioneers (ranked #3 this year) were ready for action after receiving a bye for the first round of Regional action.
First on the board were the Pioneers. The game started off looking fairly even in the ability to win the game. However, as time marched on the Marshmen were having hard times with the Pioneer defense hitting the rim - outnumbering and making baskets. Half-time brought the score to 27-18 with the Pioneers pulling ahead at a steady pace.
The second period found both teams not as organized for the press as both defenses starting to lose energy. Pioneer three pointers kept the team moving ahead as the Marshmen were having trouble getting shots near the basket. Pioneers pulled off the win 64-46.
Top scorers were: Senior #11
Senior Sam Berruecos-Morales topped the scoreboard with 22 points and pulled off 13 rebounds. Austin Lyon shot for 16 points, followed by Keegan Hockerman with 14, Owen Hendee 6, Isaiah Anason 4, and Brayden Lentz 2. Anason also racked up 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Hockerman had 9 rebounds and made 2 steals.
