Local businesses, organizations, and individuals have decorated Main Street in Wild Rose to help welcome the eighteenth annual Wild Rose Classic Car Show to Wild Rose.
All car show events this year will take place in one convenient location on the grounds of the Wild Rose Fire Department located on County Highway A west of Wild Rose, 145 Grant Ave., Wild Rose.
The Wild Rose Fire Department has been an integral part of the car show for many years providing food on the day of the show, organizing raffles, and providing assistance during the cruise. Car show organizers are grateful that the Fire Department has agreed to participate in this very meaningful way by hosting the show events at their facility. The show will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with registration from 8 a.m. to noon. All vehicles can enter regardless of age, and two trophies will be awarded in each of the 26 vehicle classes plus a Best in Show trophy.
On Friday, Sept. 19, a classic car cruise through Waushara County back roads will start at 5:30 p.m. from the Wild Rose Fire Department grounds. PLEASE NOTE: This is a half hour earlier than in prior years.
The cruise will be led by this year’s feature vehicle which is a 1935 Oldsmobile F35 owned by John Zivko of Wild Rose. Car show cruise organizers are asking the cruise participants to have their headlights on during the cruise for safety, to follow traffic laws, to not do burnouts, and to not throw candy from vehicles. We will be able to continue this great event only if we abide by these guidelines in order to keep the cruise safe and fun.
Spectators viewing the passing parade are asked to keep a safe distance from the vehicles going by and not stand on the roadways.
Police and fire department personnel will protect the intersections that are involved and hold up the traffic as necessary to allow the cruise to pass. If those protecting the intersections are called away due to an emergency, cruise participants should use good judgment and caution when approaching and negotiating unprotected intersections. This year’s cruise will be crossing State Hwy 22 near the beginning of the cruise. That will require additional caution because Hwy 22 is a major highway. Personnel protecting that intersection will be allowing some Hwy 22 traffic to pass through occasionally to keep the flow of traffic going and to not create a major back-up.
The cruise will leave the Fire Department grounds at 5:30 p.m. and head briefly east on Grant Ave., and it will then turn right onto Roberts Rd., going behind the Amoco Gas Station.
Participants will then cautiously cross State Hwy 22 eastbound onto County Rd. GH. The cars will continue eastbound on County Rd. GH and County Rd. H past Little Silver Lake Resort and the Red Fox Bar and Restaurant continuing to Archer Lane with Wilson Lake on the left and Kusel Lake on the right, passing Evergreen Campsites and Resort at about 5:45 p.m.
The cars will continue eastbound a short distance, turning left (north) onto 24th Ave., passing Oakwood Campsite, and then turning right (east) onto County Rd. A. They will then travel eastbound and will turn right (southeast) onto Portage Rd. The cruise will then turn left (north) onto 24th Lane and pass through the Springwater Volunteer Covered Bridge.
Everyone will continue northbound on 24th Lane (crossing County Rd. A) until reaching Apache Ave. where there will be a left turn (heading west) continuing on Apache Ave. and Apache Rd. westbound until they reach 19th Rd. where the cruise will turn left (south) back to County Rd. A where there will be a right turn (westbound) back toward Wild Rose.
Just before reaching State Hwy 22, the cruise will be directed to turn onto Summit Street (southbound), then to turn right onto Maple Ave. and then to turn left onto Main St.
Cruise participants are invited to park along Main Street and enjoy the hospitality of the bars, restaurants and businesses in Wild Rose. Additionally, there will be a free street dance by Sluggers Sports Bar.
