November 22 marked the ribbon cutting for Nordic Mountain’s new base lodge / ski lodge. This ribbon cutting kicked off Nordic Mountain’s 50th season, having opened on Feb. 7, 1976.
The lodge will redefine the space for their customer experience. Crafted by local contractors, the lodge addresses previous space constraints that often created bottlenecks for skiers on busy days. This plaza is heated so that guests will not slip and fall in this area while enjoying an outdoor rest on nice days. Within the lodge is a coffee shop along with some food service options. The new lodge will also feature an attractive retail space. The main ticket counter will also be located in the new lodge. Plus there are nice bathrooms!
There were many expected to pick up their printed season passes on this particular day, with many just seeing the lodge for the first time. Customers have only seen the new construction on social media until now.
Nov. 29th was the opening day for the ski season and a great snowy day is being enjoyed (I assume this as I look out my window upon my own snow covered landscape).
The first floor of the new lodge is dedicated to customer space. The downstairs has locker rooms, which were desperately needed for the ski patrol and the snow sports school. The space also features a nice lounge for the great group of volunteers on ski patrol. The upstairs has administrative offices, which is a good change from working in the attic of the other lodge.
Nordic Mountain appreciates the contractors who completed construction in time to be moved in before opening day. The general contractor was Hanson Construction, concrete work was Brothers Concrete, excavation was S&G Excavating, plumbing and HVAC was Lehr Heating and Plumbing, and electrical was Bauer Electric. The building was constructed entirely by local businesses.
Look for celebrations in the season to come, including their 50th Anniversary Party on Saturday, March 7. Come and share old memories and stories, and create a new one in their 50th season!
