After receiving a national grant designed to build accessibility into small and rural libraries, Plainfield Library is hosting a Community Conversation. Director Albosta shares that inclusivity and accessibility are rooted into the mission and vision of the library and firmly believes that the voices of those with lived experiences of disabilities, whether visible or hidden, must be the loudest as we discuss how to use this grant. “Nothing about us without us.”
To encourage participation, dinner will be provided, in addition to $10 gift cards to offset the cost of travel, and small goodie bags. “We know it’s the end of the week: people are tired, they’re hungry, gas costs money, and there are a million other barriers to getting here. We can’t eliminate all of them, but we can remove some. We hope you join us,” implores Director Albosta.
Community members of all ages are welcome, especially neurodiverse individuals, individuals with disabilities, family members, caregivers, and advocates.
The conversation will take place on Friday, Aug. 14 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Plainfield Library meeting room. Please RSVP by Monday, Aug. 10.
Because meaningful accessibility starts with listening. Your ideas, experiences, and perspectives will help shape future improvements and priorities for our library.
